Our Vision

The term ‘armour’ traditionally refers to the protective covering for one’s body during battle. Nowadays, it’s used metaphorically to describe humans’ inclination to ‘armour- up’; to devise ways to shield ourselves from threats and challenges that we face in our daily lives; it’s a protection mechanism.

The problem is, when we wear this armour, two things can happen: we can stifle our authenticity, hiding the real and best versions of ourselves, and we can miss opportunities to make mistakes and learn important life lessons. Our children are no different! In fact, in Australia, rates of anxiety in young people have never been higher. It’s time we help them to approach life’s challenges with greater authenticity and confidence.

Armour Education was established to assist children to become happier and more confident in their own skin. Children are frequently navigating situations that can tempt or cause them to deviate from who they are, getting caught up in what they think they should be, instead of remaining true to themselves, which can inevitably lead them to become stressed or anxious.

Armour Education workshops aim to help children focus their energies on the things that matter most to them and divert their attention away from things out of their control. This helps them to identify what they need to let go of, to ensure that little challenges don’t become big problems.

Weekly sessions prompt rich and meaningful peer collaborations, as students engage in safe and open conversations as well as fun activities to develop practical skills and understandings that can be used to tackle age-specific challenges head on with greater self-belief, calmness, and authenticity. Workshops include opportunities for children to understand their own behaviours, thoughts, and feelings, by learning about the brain’s chemical processes and thought patterns.

Children are reminded, through focus activities and discussions, that being kind to others and showing gratitude for what they have, invariably promotes happiness within themselves. In acknowledging that children learn best when they are engaged and having fun, all workshops will encompass elements of physical exercise, mindfulness practices, and plenty of opportunities to laugh and interact with likeminded peers.

Parents will play an important role in helping to consolidate key learning and will be provided with practical ideas, prompts to initiate discussion, and take-home activities to work through with their children following weekly workshops.
At the conclusion of this program, it is hoped that children are better equipped to shed the false armour they may have been wearing, to become comfortable with what is underneath - their authenticity.
